SSC has announced 1,748 tentative vacancies for the Junior Engineer Examination 2026. The Commission has stated that the post-wise and category-wise final vacancies will be made available on the SSC website under the Tentative Vacancy section. State-wise or zone-wise vacancies are not collected by SSC.

SSC JE Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
The educational qualification varies according to the post and engineering branch.
Junior Engineer (Civil)
Depending upon the organization, candidates may require a Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized University/Institute/Board. For certain posts such as BRO and MES, candidates with a Diploma may also need the prescribed work experience.
Junior Engineer (Electrical)
Candidates must possess the prescribed Degree/Diploma in Electrical Engineering. For certain organizations, the notification also prescribes relevant experience for Diploma holders.
Junior Engineer (Mechanical)
Candidates require a Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, depending on the organization.
Junior Engineer (Telecom)
Candidates require a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Technology in specified disciplines such as:

SSC JE 2026 Selection Process
The selection process is based on performance in the Computer-Based Examination and post/organization preferences.
The minimum qualifying marks in both Paper-I and Paper-II are:
- UR: 30%
- OBC/EWS: 25%
- All other categories: 20%
Paper-I is qualifying in nature. Candidates are shortlisted for Paper-II based on normalized Paper-I marks, while only normalized Paper-II scores are used for determining final merit.
Final selection/allocation of Post, Organization or Office is based on Paper-II performance and the preferences submitted by candidates.
For posts having specific physical/medical requirements, candidates must satisfy those requirements. In particular, only male candidates are eligible for JE posts in the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
